Lamp Family Bonding

Since Danny came home from the hospital Sunday evening, we went to their house to visit that night.

Ethan earns 10 and a half stars this time!!!!

One for every ounce he's gained since our last weight check. That's right...our little boy is

8 pounds and 6 1/2 ounces!!!!

In case you forgot, here are his stats:

Feb. 14 - 8 pounds, 9 ounces

Feb. 19 - 7 pounds, 11 ounces - yikes!

Feb. 21 - 7 pounds, 12 ounces

Feb. 25 - 8 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces

So, yea for Ethan!!!! I can cross that off of my list of worries for now.

Update on Danny - we were surprised to find out that they were discharging him yesterday afternoon. He was doing too good to go to a rehabilitation center, so he got to go home and they were going to do rehab outpatient with him. In fact, we were able to go over last night and have some family time. I hope to post pictures later (we got a 4 generation shot). However, this morning, they had a bit of a scare, and they took him back to the hospital. He's in the ER right now getting some tests run, so we'll know more later. Keep praying!

Ethan earns a gold star

We made our first official outing (I don't think doctor visits really count) to church this morning. Ethan did a great job! We didn't hear a single wimper out of him the whole time. He just slept as everyone oohed and aahed at him.

Ethan and Uncle Shad happened to match. I think they called each other this morning and planned it out.

Urgent Prayer Request

***3rd UPDATE***

Danny seems to have improved a lot since last night. He was up and walking around this afternoon when Lonnie went to go see him. His right arm is a lot stronger than it was yesterday and his hand is growing stronger as well. Lonnie said yesterday he could hardly understand what his dad was saying, but today he could understand about 75% of his words. The speech therapist was there as Lonnie was leaving, so we don't know an official update on that yet.

We took Danny this picture in a frame that said "I Love my Grandpa," and Lonnie said that seemed to cheer him up.

So, things are looking up. We know God has answered our prayers, and we appreciate everyone's continued prayers.

***2nd UPDATE***
The man from our church that is a brain surgeon was able to do his own assessment and give us a lot of good information. Danny is able to stand up and walk, and it looks like he's able to move everything as normal except for his right hand. He is able to understand everything, but unable to communicate effectively at this point.
Best case... Danny could regain 90-95% of everything within 6 months.
Worst case... The stroke could continue in the upcoming hours and days and cause further damage.
As of now, it looks like Danny will stay in ICU for the next few days and then go to a rehabilitation center possibly for a week before coming home.

He did say that Danny was "lucky" for it to have happened the way it did. He mentioned that a stroke was probably inevitable, with the kind of blockage that he had. So if he hadn't had the surgery scheduled, he could have had a stroke at home, and taken much longer to get medical attention.

It looks like he did have a stroke. Lonnie made it to the hospital and Danny recognized him, but couldn't say anything to him. That's about all we know right now. There is a man at our church who is a brain surgeon, and he had just arrived at the hospital when Lonnie was calling me, so hopefully he can get some more info for us. I'll post more later.

Lonnie's dad had surgery this morning on his carotid artery to take care of some blockage. We heard this morning that the surgery went well, but Lonnie's mom just called and said that he's not doing well. One side of his face is droopy and she can't understand anything he's saying. We don't know if that means he's had a stroke or not. The doctors that performed his surgery this morning are in another surgery, so she hasn't been able to talk to a doctor yet.

Lonnie left just a few minutes ago to be with them. Please be praying for Danny to be okay, and for Shirley as she is waiting to find out more information.

(and keep me in your prayers, too, as I'm now at home alone with Ethan, which makes me very nervous, especially knowing that Lonnie is at least a 30 minute drive away if I need him)

Feeding Blues

Well, I'm learning that there's not as much time to blog as there used to be. Here's what we've been up to the last few days...

Our biggest issue right now is eating. Ethan is not a big fan of nursing. I was getting concerned that he wasn't getting enough to eat, so we went to our one week check up a few days early on Tuesday. Ethan weighed 7 pounds and 11 ounces, which the doctor said is still in the normal range, but not great. He wanted us to come back in 48 hours to check his weight again. We went this morning, and he weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces. We thought he'd weigh more than that, since we had changed a few things with his eating. We've been supplementing with formula and having him eat more frequently. We even went yesterday to see a Lactation Consultant and got some good advice, so we were a little disappointed that he hadn't gained more weight. But the doctor said it's still okay - we'll go back again on Monday to check his weight again. SO...we're hoping that this all gets better soon (for his health and for our sanity).

Aside from that, Ethan's doing great! He's a great sleeper and is content most of the time (anytime that doesn't involve eating).

I went in to check on Ethan the other day and found him like this. I guess after washing his hair, we forgot to pull his shirt back up over his shoulders. I'm surprised I didn't wake him up from laughing so hard! (We blame that on Aunt Rachel - she gave him his bath!)

Ethan is looking a little jaundiced, so the doctor recommended a little sunbathing! Luckily, the weather cooperated and we were able to get a little sunshine on his skin.

Lonnie's cousin's wife is expecting any day now, so she came over to get the low-down on the delivery and get in a little practice time before her sweet little boy comes. (Does that make her Ethan's second cousin-in-law????)

I washed his hair all by myself!!!! I'm getting braver every day. :)

I've been too nervous to wash Ethan's hair, so when Rachel was here this afternoon, we took advantage of her! She did it and let me watch and take pictures. He LOVES having his head under the water, but doesn't like the actual washing part.
